VARIETY – Tom Blyth and Russell Tovey are set to lead “Plainclothes,” a new independent film from writer-director Carmen Emmi. The film, which will shoot in Syracuse, N.Y., is being produced by Arthur Landon, Colby Cote and Eric Podwall on behalf of Page 1 Entertainment and Lorton Entertainment.

Set in the ’90s and inspired by true events, a working-class undercover officer is tasked with entrapping and apprehending gay men, only to find himself drawn to one of his targets.

“Carmen Emmi is one of those unique talents who truly deserves a platform for his creative ingenuity,” producers Cote and Landon jointly tell Variety of Emmi’s directorial debut. “‘Plainclothes’ is a heartfelt story that deals with internal conflict, family and the complexities of sexual identity in the face of societal and personal expectations. We are excited to bring his first screenplay life with this incredible cast.”

Starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sam Heughan and Celine Dion and featuring multiple new songs from Dion, Love Again, written for the screen and directed by Jim Strouse, is only in theaters May 12, 2023.

Sony Dates Screen Gems’ Celine Dion Movie ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me’

It’s All Coming Back to Me will be hitting theaters on February 10.

The Sony Screen Gems movie formerly titled Text for You centers on a woman who, after tragically losing her fiancé, starts to send romantic texts to his old cell. It turns out the number has been reassigned to a man across town suffering from a similar heartbreak. The two meet and feel an undeniable connection but can’t seem to leave the past behind. Until Celine Dion and her music gives them the courage to take a chance on love again.

Russell Tovey to star in ‘Text For You’

Russell Tovey has joined the cast of new movie Text For You, starring pop diva Celine Dion in her first film role.

Text For You is a romantic drama based on 2016 German movie SMS Fur Dich — an adaptation of the popular novel of the same name by Sofie Cramer.

Russell joins an all-star ensemble for the movie that includes, Celine, Sam Heughan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Omid Djalili and Celia Imrie.

Jim Strouse is directing the flick, which is based on the 2016 German film ‘SMS Fur Dich’.

It tells the story of a woman, who, to ease the pain after tragically losing her fiance, starts to send romantic texts to his old phone. It turns out that the number has been reassigned to a man across town suffering from similar heartbreak.

The two meet and feel an undeniable connection, but can’t seem to leave the past behind.

Lauryn Kahn has drafted the most recent version of the script and Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Esther Hornstein are producing for the Thunder Road banner.
